Is it Jealousy or Confirmation?
Matt 3:11 I indeed baptize you in (with) water because of repentance [that is, because of your changing your minds for the better, heartily amending your ways, with abhorrence of your past sins]. But He Who is coming after me is mightier than I, Whose sandals I am not worthy or fit to take off or carry; He will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.
Is John Jealous of the success of Jesus or does he feel the need to confirm who Jesus is …?
When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to ask him,
“Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”
Jesus replied,
“Go back and report to John what you hear and see:
The blind receive sight,
The lame walk,
Those who have leprosy are cleansed,
The deaf hear,
The dead are raised, and
The good news is proclaimed to the poor.
Jesus is saying “Let My actions speak for Me!!!
Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
If you are familiar with this story, you’ll know that John is murdered in prison just three chapters later.
Was John Jealous or did he need confirmation of the true Messiah before sending his disciples off to follow someone claiming to be the Messiah.
