Sunday School: Bible Study - Malachi reminds Israel of God's love calling them to repent

Malachi, the last prophet of the Old Testament, was sent to remind the Jewish people of God's love and call them to repentance.

  • Role and Meaning of Malachi: Malachi, whose name means "my messenger," was a prophet sent to deliver God's message to the Jews in Judea and all of Israel.
  • God's Promises and Punishments: God had promised to forgive His people if they repented, but they ignored the prophets and were punished by being sent to Babylon for 70 years. After their return, God continued to send prophets to encourage them.
  • Message of Love and Disappointment: Malachi reminded the people of God's love, but they doubted it because the Messiah had not yet come. God expressed His disappointment with their actions, including robbing Him and claiming it was useless to serve Him.
  • Silence and Future Hope: After Malachi's message, God was silent for 400 years. Malachi encouraged those who feared God with the promise that "the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings".
